Planted in 2002, the orchard contains fruit trees planted in recognition of long standing members. The first tree planted recognizes Marlis Runnberg, who initiated the acquisition of the homestead and for whom the orchard is named. The second tree recognizes Finland’s “four sisters”; Sophie, Lila, Mary, and Ruth Kalander. When the tree was planted three of the four sisters– Lila Hangartner, Mary Nikolai, and Ruth Himes, with their combined ages totaling more than 250 years, were present. In 2003 members Bob Nikolai, Ron Johnson, Bonnie Tikkanen and Carl Hofschulte were honored with trees in recognition of their years of service.
